Prenatal & Postpartum

supportING the life giving continuum

The perinatal period is a charged and vulnerable time in people’s lives. Fine Tune Pilates is committed to caring for the vastness of these experiences and their impacts on the body.

No two pregnancies, births, babies, or women are alike. If you are curious about working with your postpartum body or have any questions about our policies, offerings, or beliefs, please reach out to us. We are passionate about this work and are here to support whole health for long-term well-being.

PolicIES & TERMINOLOGY

Postpartum

Our work makes a distinction between postpartum and postnatal. We define postpartum as life following pregnancy — whether the pregnancy resulted in birth or otherwise — meaning anything from one day to 40+ years, while postnatal specifically refers to the first 12-18 months postpartum.

Our staff are experienced and capable of supporting postpartum bodies in all their variety, at all stages.

Prenatal

We do not host prenatal Unison classes at FT, instead, we suggest you continue your Pilates practice with regular class participation, tapping into the heightened awareness your pregnant body inhabits and your instructor’s suggested variations. We strongly encourage people in their third trimester of pregnancy to switch to practicing Solo Pilates, so an instructor can offer one-to-one attention and choose exercises specifically designed to support and prepare you for birth. Continuing with Unison classes in the third trimester given our semi-private environment is also ok!

Postnatal

Movement can be supportive in the first few weeks postpartum and we advocate for trusting what your body needs. For liability reasons, we recommend returning to the studio 5-6 weeks postpartum after you have been discharged from your care provider. See below for details on our Unison postnatal class.

UNISON

PostNATAL CLASS

TUESDAYS at 1:00pm with Hannah

A class specifically designed for parents to get their groove back following birth. This class builds the strength you’ll need to care for your little person on the daily, and to regain muscle tone after pregnancy and birth. Bring your bubs, or not, up to you.

Drop in, use your existing membership, or get our specially priced postnatal 6 class pass.

What’s Recommended:
Available to all parents no matter the age of your little up to 14 months of age. Unfortunately we can only accommodate children up to the age of 14 months accompanied by a parent. Birthing parent must be at least 6 weeks postpartum and gotten the go-ahead from their health care practitioner.

Logistically it’s hard to wrangle the toddlers over the age of 14 months and our insurers do not cover children over this age, which means we are not able to make any exceptions to this rule.
