FAQs
It’s my first time, how do I get started?
Welcome! Starting with a Solo is our recommended way to kick off our relationship together (we hope it will be a lifelong one!). We can assess your movement patterns and needs in a first-time Solo as well as ensure we support you in getting what you desire from our services. Check out our introductory offer!
Unison classes are semi-private reformer classes with up to 5 people and we always welcome newcomers to these classes. While no experience is required to participate, if you have never worked with a reformer before, we do recommend a Solo to get you acquainted. Check out our Unison introductory offer!
I have an injury or chronic pain, can Pilates help?
Yes, Pilates-based exercise and working the body in a balanced and informed way can improve certain conditions. All of our instructors are equipped to move people safely through most common injuries to improve movement patterns and provide postural support. We recommend that people with specific injuries begin their journey with a Solo session for specificity; taking Solo sessions in tandem with Unison classes to address specific needs can be beneficial.
What is a Reformer?
The Reformer is a traditional piece of equipment used for Pilates exercise. It uses spring-based resistance to build strength and facilitate dynamic movement.
The Reformer may look intimidating, but in reality, it’s a supportive machine that’s accessible to lots of populations. It has many options for adaptation to fit you just right, which our instructors will ensure you’re exploring during Solo sessions. If you are joining us for Unison classes please don’t hesitate to ask your instructor about settings you can enable that will best support your body.
In-Person
What to expect upon arrival?
Fine Tune Pilates is located in downtown Toronto deep in the heart of Parkdale near Queen and Sorauren. We have minimal signage so please familiarize yourself with our address and look for a glass door with our logo on it.
We do not staff reception and you will need the KISI app to access our doors (see more info below on this system). Adding you to our system is a manual process and can take up to 24hours. See KISI FAQ below for more info.
Doors for Unison classes are only unlocked 10 minutes before and after class start time. No exceptions are made should you arrive later than this. Please plan accordingly.
Once you arrive and let yourself in, please make your way to the second floor and make yourself at home. Show yourself to the Unison room if another class isn’t in progress or wait for your instructor to greet you in the lobby for your Solo session.
We have two change rooms, a gender-neutral washroom and a water filling station available for your needs but have otherwise very minimal space.
We are A/C equipped and have a hidden gem of an open-air atrium in the middle of our studio so you will often find our windows open and the breeze flowing.
Check out our guidelines for sharing space before visiting us.
Reach out to us if you have any further questions.
We look forward to having you!
What should I wear for in-person sessions and classes?
Whatever you feel comfortable moving in, typically something stretchy and breathable. Pilates is done without shoes, and Fine Tune studios are shoe-free environments. To socks or not to sock, is up to you.
What is KISI and how do I use it?
*NOTE: our KISI system is in the process of being upgraded and you must open the app to unlock the doors via the buttons corresponding to each. Read below for more details on our entry system.
KISI is our security system and what allows access to our studio. FT Parkdale doors are locked at all times, so to gain entry for your appointment the KISI app acts as your key, using your phone as a fob. Access is gained by downloading and using the app, available on both iPhone and Android.
If you have downloaded the app and don’t see the Fine Tune doors please reach out! Adding you to our system can take up to 24 hours. In case of emergency please ring our bell on the intercom to the left of the door.
With the app active, location services on and your Bluetooth live, you should not have to open the app to unlock the doors. Look for the box with a blue light next to each door. When the light turns green, come on in!
TROUBLESHOOTING: If you have downloaded the app, and created your account successfully (you can see location and doors) and the unlock function still isn’t working, check that your Bluetooth (iPhone) or NFC (Android) settings are on as well as location services.
Bluetooth/NFC must be active for the KISI app for the reader to find the fob. When you are logged in and all of the appropriate settings are active, you should be able to gain access within a foot of the reader if your location services are on or by opening the app and tapping your phone. The blue light will turn green when unlocked!
Is there parking?
Yes! There is paid street parking on Queen Street West as well as a Green P lot off of neighbouring Fuller Ave.
Select side streets offer free temporary parking.
Virtual
Do I need equipment?
No, but equipment can be helpful, especially if you are participating in a Solo. We are here to work with your body first and foremost, and any other tools you may have to work with are just a bonus. We can also get creative with objects you have around the house.
You can find our basic Prop Kit, in our goods section.
If you are interested in more props or a Reformer (our true love), please contact us for support.
I’ve never used ZOOM before, how does it all work?
To participate in any of our live virtual services you will need to download the Zoom meeting client for your computer or mobile device.
Solo links will be provided by your instructor
FT Live links can be found in your registration confirmation email.
